Round Robin - Landmarks

When my wife and I first moved to Texas, one of the first things we noticed as we drove through small town after small town was the number of amazing county squares. Every town has an historic courthouse and ours is no exception.

Inside the courthouse is this statue and explanation of our County name.

So, drive carefully as you leave and have a great time visiting the other Round Robin participants.

Hi Shorty

And Welcome to the Round Robin Photo Challenges! I'm Carly. :) I really like visiting places of historical interest, so these photos are super. I am a big fan of county squares and government buildings, one of my very favorite is the Capitol building in Carson City, Nevada. The State Legislature building is quite similar to the first photo you posted. :) I hope you will join us for many challenges to come. Once again, WELCOME!

Always, Carly

I am new to the Round Robin Challenge too. Your Texas courthouse is impressive. Indiana has some beautiful historic edifices as well. I know a young boy, who photographed all 92 courthouses.

Oh, I love that. It's like the Hill Valley courthouse, only real and done up in marble. Much more impressive than brick! I enjoyed reading the plaque about Deaf Smith, too. I'm sure I heard of him in Social Studies class, somewhere along the line, even though I grew up in the Northeast.

Welcome to the Robins, and thanks for an excellent first entry with us!

Great pictures and story. I grew up in Ohio and our county courthouse was pretty impressive, too. I used to love to go inside and stomp my feet because I liked to hear the echoes. (Mom would never let me shout or anything... which really would have been cool). Welcome to the Round Robins and thank you for the pictures.

I wonder why courthouses are so palatial (here in Brussels too) and it's only for criminals, lol ! (judges and attorneys included)

I could look at pictures of old courthouses in Texas and the South all day. They have such character. Thanks for sharing.

Nice, we spent a few months living in TX, long enough to get married by a Justice of the Peace. :)
